The warm light of these candles was too much to pass up. I loved the way they looked as they illuminated the bridal party table.

Another shot from this weekend's wedding. I know it's not the typical wedding photo, but this one was really great and I just had to post it. I like the way it captures the wedding in a dual form.

A taste from last nights wedding

Cake Topper
A taste from last nights wedding

The happy couple were engaged in front of Cinderella's Castle in the Magic Kingdom. So naturally the cake topper had to be Micky and Minnie. This wedding was amazing and the bride and groom were obviously happy to be married.

I'm still processing the photos from this wedding, but I thought I'd give you a taste (Get it, cake, taste.....ok I'll work on my humor.) If you are a family member interested in some of the shots from this wedding, stay tuned for a link to download them.

Congratulations to the happy couple.

Here's another shot from my photowalk downtown Charlotte NC. I'm sure this photo has been taken several times by many photographers before me, but the sun was setting in the sky and the colors were warm and beautiful. I couldn't pass up this great shot.

Relative Time

Time Challenge
Relative Time

Here is my submission for this week's photo challenge "Time Piece" with fellow blogger Kevin. I captured this in the back yard while at a pool party this weekend. All week I took photos of my wrist, my watch, threw my watch into the air, but none of them were as interesting as this sun dial. When I saw it I was glad that the camera was at my side. Check out Kevin's blog to see how he interpreted the challenge.

The Path to Forever

The path to forever
The Path To Forever

This is a technique that I have been experimenting with for a while. It's difficult to master and most of the time the results are horrible, but this one in particular came out great. It requires a longer shutter speed and a quick reflex on the zoom lens. After pressing the shutter release button, you zoom out to give this effect. I especially like this one because it makes you a bit uneasy when you look at it. It's almost like the girl on the trail is running away from something.

Sunset Portrait

Hair Light
Sunset Portrait

Another photo of my favorite model/actress. The sun was setting at the time giving off such a wonderful warm light that this portrait had to be taken.

I did a lot of work with my portrait lens this weekend and I tried to get over my fear of ISO 400.
This allowed me to increase the shutter speed enough to make me love this lens again.

Silhouette Profile

A baseball cap looks great on a beautiful woman, and this profile shot really made me stop and stare at the computer screen. Silhouette's have a wonderful artistic effect of leading the imagination. I loved the lines of the blinds in the background of this shot and the framing of the profile as well.

Slugger Joe

Slugger Joe
Slugger Joe

I did a lot of portrait work this weekend and I learned a lot from it (photographers are constantly leaning.) Many of the portraits that I took in the past were with a 50mm lens and I felt that it was the perfect lens for the job. Everything I had read told me that a zoom lens of 70 to 200mm should be used instead of a 50mm, and this weekend I found out exactly why. One of the portraits I attempted was with a woman with a more prominent nose and it made her face look out of proportion. Switching to the zoom lens fixed the elongation and made a big difference in the nose and facial features. The portrait above was taken with the zoom lens and I really liked the result.

The northern window at the end of this shot let in the most amazingly warm light. There's something wonderful about a child learning to play piano, and I hope I captured that emotion with the little fingers pressing the keys in a dainty way.

Fire Line Do Not Cross
Fire Line, Do Not Cross

Our area had heavy storms this week and my power was our for 2 days. The reason for the power outage was obvious by looking out the back window. A large tree was uprooted and decided to lay on top of the power lines and cable lines. Here's a picture of the fire line tape that was decorating my back yard.

Photo Assignment: Bridge

Bridge Photo Assignment
Bridge Blur

This weeks photo assignment with Kevin from Kevin from Kevin's Photography was to take a picture of a bridge. Here's my interpretation of that assignment. You can see Kevin's shot here. My intent for this shot was to focus completely on the word "bridge" when I took this shot. In order to get the fstop at 1.8 I had to increase the shutter speed to 1/1250 of a second. The intent with the top portion of the image is to make you guess if it's a bridge or not. Let me know what you think by leaving a comment. Leave a comment for Kevin too.

Just a quick note to my faithful blog readers. I have been without power for a couple days, but my camera has had power. I have a lot of pictures to share once my power and internet connections are restored. Stay tuned......

This is one of those shots where you need to get as high as possible without getting caught. Standing on top of the lockers is generally frowned upon by the staff of the school, but getting the shot was worth it. This was taken on assignment for the 8th grade DVD cover. I don't think they will use this particular shot, but it's my favorite of the bunch.

Make a funny face

Here's shot number two from this weekends portrait session. This family was really great to work with. I enjoyed this shot in particular because this was her first reaction when I said "make a funny face." She complied nicely. Special thanks to the family for allowing me to post these photos.

Are you Sure?

Here's a shot from this weekend's portrait session. Doesn't he look like he belongs on a Gap billboard? The lighting was a bit low due to overcast skies so I bumped up the ISO to 800 in order to get this shot. However, the 50mm Nikon lens has really great glass and is a fast lens. Stay tuned for a couple more shots from this weeks photo session.
