Capturing the serious from the funny

Miranda is rarely serious and yet somehow amongst the frames of shots taken at her portrait shoot I managed to capture this gem. I really love the expression and light in this shot.

Light Saber Before The Light

EJP_3561-2

Day 3 of 365
ISO: 250
Aperture: F4
Shutter: 1/250s
70mm

My son was playing with a 3 point lighting system for taking video and I thought I would capture this photo of my Son.  The wooden light saber will soon become a glowing light in post production for the video.  It's exciting to see my son work so hard on his passion for being a director.

The girl that empties my wallet

Day 2 of 365  1-2-11
ISO: 250
Aperture: F2.8
60mm
Shutter Speed: 1/250s

This was a quick experiment in looking for light.  At first we were on the porch and my daughter's back was to the sun.  The light was not falling on her face enough to make it clear and the shadows were too much.  We moved out to the middle of the yard and had her face lit from the sun on her right.  Then I looked for the background to find something dark to frame around her.  The green bush was perfect and I think this shot turned out well.  I shot it wide open at f2.8 so I had to make sure my focus point was on her eyes.  If the eyes are not sharp, then the rest of the picture is useless.

Jane and Cameron Engagement Part 2

One more shot from Sunday's engagement session. I love the natural framing of the trees and the background with this shot. I can only imagine eating family dinners every evening while looking at this tremendous view.

Lifestyle Portrait Session Silent Auction

My daughter's school is raising money to pay for pencils, equipment, etc. So this year I will be auctioning a lifestyle portrait session. It's $125 value, and if you are interested in having me tell your family's story for two hours, then I will be happy to provide details where the auction will be taking place.

Lifestyle Family Session

Capturing stunning photographs at sunset in the month of May means that it's going to be a bit cold. Despite the cool temp we were able to get some stunning photographs this evening. Here are just a few of my favorites from tonight.

Tom and Jessica

Tom and Jessica
Meet Tom and Jessica. Yesterday this amazing couple joined me in beautiful downtown Rochester Michigan for their portrait shoot. We really had a great time exploring the city for textures and photographic opportunities.

Tom and Jessica

The first thing I noticed about the two of them were their matching Dr. Martens, so this photograph had to be taken.

We photographed near sunset, and the sun was casting some wonderful shadows.

Dog Portraits

Meet Tootsie, a loveable poodle and all around mans best friend. These photos were taken with natural light because the flash would have spooked her. Another thing that spooked her was the focus "beep" of the camera. Every time the camera beeped in focus Tootsie would get nervous because she thought it was the electric fence dog collar going off. I quickly turned off the beep for this shoot and got some great shots. Here are a couple of my favorites.

A Year of Pictures

I began this blog a year ago in an attempt to keep myself shooting and to continually improve my photographic skills. The year was filled with great images, many of which I have shared with you and many many others I have not. I began the year photo walking the streets of New Orleans taking shots like this one.

Crawdad

From New Orleans I began carrying my camera with me everywhere and snapping pictures of things that I had been seeing all of my life. I really found my niche photographing people and telling their stories through a series of photographs. This passion led me to starting my photography business later in the year and it has been a whole lot of fun.
Fall Color Portraits
I was able to capture the stories of several families and meet some incredible people along the way.
Water Fall Portrait

I had the great pleasure to photograph two weddings this year and I really enjoyed it. I have more weddings on the booked this year and can't wait to work with those brides and grooms. Shooting a wedding is an amazing challenge, but the best part is meeting the people and capturing the moments that unfold.

Wedding suprise

I was given the amazing opportunity this year to follow freshman quarterback Sean Charette on the football field for each home game. This talented young man took the team all the way to Ford Field for the state finals. Shooting on Ford Field was the highlight of my photographic journey last year and one I will never forget.

Lake Orion Vs Rockford State Championship

I'm excited for the year ahead and can't wait to see what photos come from my camera. I will continue to carry my camera with me everywhere, and the rules of my blog still stand. Post a new picture every day. The picture that was taken must have been taken within a week of the post. Thanks for following me on my photographic journey. I look forward to another year of pictures.

Christmas Portrait

Christmas Portrait

The nice thing about being home for Christmas is that I can take wonderful portraits like this one. I almost didn't make it home for Christmas, so this one is cherished much more than most. Merry Christmas to all.

LA Photo Shoot

Here's an impromptu photo shoot for my first day in Los Angeles.

This girls a super model in the makeing.

EJP-9770

The next few images were quite a challenge to get. This boy was interested in playing, but not interested in posing for any photographs. So a fast shutter and reverse psychology was required. I think the results are great.

Rochester Park Portrait Session

It all started two years ago with a coupon. A Christmas gift in the form of an IOU for a family portrait session was given and then forgotten about (so they thought.) Steve told me how the grand parents presented the coupon a few weeks ago and requested a family portrait before Christmas time. So all ten of them met me at the Rochester park on Sunday and we had a blast. The following is just a sneak peak of this amazing family.

Closeup + Baby + knit Cap = CUTE

I call this one the inquisitive look.

I really love these overhead shots a great deal.

We did not feed the duck, it was just as curious to know what Grandpa was talking about as the boy was.

As soon as this one sat down I had to take this shot.

They look happy now, but I bet 5 years ago these siblings were fighting and chasing each other.

Every photographer says that their next shot is their favorite, and this next shot is above that for me. It's nice when the picture on the back of the camera looks exactly as you pictured it, and this was no exception. I saw this image when we crossed the bridge and I had to take it.

Water Fall Portrait

Thank you for allowing me to photograph your family this year. I really had a great time. These are just some of my favorites from this shoot, and I can't wait for you to see the rest.
