No longer camera shy

The old camera trick

Here's a shot that took a bit of coaxing to get. This boy did not want his picture taken. I could tell by the way he covered his eyes and said the words "no pictures." This is where the LCD screen on the camera comes in real handy. I take a shot and show him the picture. He get's intrigued a bit. Then I let him press the shutter and take a picture himself. This makes him even more intrigued and all he wants to do is press the shutter button. I got about 50 shots of my chin to get this one gem of a shot. I think it turned out ok, and now there is one less camera shy boy in the world.

Reflection

Reflection

I enjoy the intensity of the look this boy is giving out the window and the reflection seen in the glass. The blue eyes with the snow reflecting in them is really great as well. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Special thanks to my brother and his wife for driving many miles to visit. Today was really wonderful.

LA Photo Shoot

Here's an impromptu photo shoot for my first day in Los Angeles.

This girls a super model in the makeing.

The next few images were quite a challenge to get. This boy was interested in playing, but not interested in posing for any photographs. So a fast shutter and reverse psychology was required. I think the results are great.

Hey, Camera Guy

Find the camera man in this shot
Hey, Camera Guy!

What's that guy doing with the camera? This a sneak peak to the sneak peak from yesterday's fall color shoot with an amazing family. I'll post more tomorrow. We toured the lovely Van Hoosen Farms in Rochester for this fall colors shoot, and I am extremely excited with the results. I am still working through the images, but here's one shot for now. Can you see me (the camera guy) in this photo?

Tyler Photo Session

Today I present to you one of my favorite clients, Tyler. He was in a great mood tonight which made it especially easy to photograph him in action. These are my favorites from the session.

This is a shot of my test model during today's photo shoot. He was posing so that I could take light readings, and this expression was just too awesome to not post on my blog for today. Stay tuned for an amazing set of shots from today's shoot.

Hit The Fence

Hit The Fence
Hit The Fence

Seems like most of my shots are taken at sunset these days, mainly because I'm currently a natural light photographer (That's another way of saying that I don't have an external flash.) I really enjoy the challenge of using available light to it's fullest, and here was one example of that. The sun was setting and the shadows from this fence were really great.

Wink and a Smile

Today's portrait session with Will and Catherine was really terrific. Capturing two youngsters on camera is quite a challenge because they do what they want to do. Sometimes you can convince them to pose for gummy bears, but for the most part they call the shots. After reviewing today's shoot I'm extremely happy with the results.

Here's one of my favorites of Will from today. He has the most infectious laugh, it just took a few minutes for him to warm up after his nap.

Catherine was quite photogenic and had about a million different faces. Sometimes that face included the most amazing smile (as seen below.)

Thanks for allowing me to capture part of the lives of these amazing children today.

Another portrait from this past weekend. I love the expression of joy on this boy's face. I like the imagery of the mother wrapping her arms around the son as a sign of motherhood and love.

Slugger Joe

Slugger Joe
Slugger Joe

I did a lot of portrait work this weekend and I learned a lot from it (photographers are constantly leaning.) Many of the portraits that I took in the past were with a 50mm lens and I felt that it was the perfect lens for the job. Everything I had read told me that a zoom lens of 70 to 200mm should be used instead of a 50mm, and this weekend I found out exactly why. One of the portraits I attempted was with a woman with a more prominent nose and it made her face look out of proportion. Switching to the zoom lens fixed the elongation and made a big difference in the nose and facial features. The portrait above was taken with the zoom lens and I really liked the result.
