This sign was begging for me to photograph it. No question about it.

Rockstar Wedding Photographer

Sometimes I refer to myself as a rockstar wedding photographer. This photo was taken with my iPhone when I was shopping with my daughter and I just couldn't resist capturing this. I should have bought this sign and hung it in my studio.  Instead I'll share it with you here.

ALTO Means Stop

The composition of this photos is intentional. Here in Mexico, a STOP (ALTO) sign does not mean stop. It really means yield, or more exactly "kinda sorta stop if you want to, but just go ahead" I'm afraid the yield sign is just for decoration, because that doesn't even seem to make a difference at all.

iPhone Photo Friday - Rental Car Sign

My car was waiting for me

This week's iPhone Friday post is a bit of a vanity photo, but I like the perspective in this shot. When I get off the plane, the last thing I want to do is wait in a line for a rental car representative to punch a bunch of keys on the keyboard and stare at a computer terminal. I want to walk up to my car and drive away. That's exactly what I get with Avis and it's glorious. I see my name on the board and it tells me where to find my car. It's that easy and makes all the difference in the world.

Rehearsal Dinner

Open for Rehearsal

Photographed the rehearsal on the beach today in Traverse City. Here's a photo from outside the restaurant at the rehearsal dinner.

Lake Orion Lumber Co

Lake Orion Lumber

There are so many photos that I want to take in this area, but it's fenced off and I don't feel like trespassing. Maybe I could get in to take some more photos when they are open, but I have never seen this store open before. Maybe it's because they are opend uring the day and I'm never around.

Absolutely No Boat Launching

Seasonal signs are fun to play with. I'm quite sure this sign is doing it's job right now.

Eat and Get Out

Ed D'bevics restaurant in Chicago is one of my favorite places to dine. This 50s style diner is an all around great experience and I recommend you go at least once in your lifetime.

Traffic Tranquilizer

The & IRS = "Theirs"
Traffic Tranquilizer

At Abacus Accounting in Lake Orion, they call this sign the "traffic tranquilizer" and I must say that it works. I drive by this sign every day and look forward to seeing a new saying. Thank you Abacus Accounting for making my drive just a bit easier every day.

Upside Down Marketing

Look at it upside down
Upside Down Marketing

Abacus Accounting in Lake Orion seems to have the most wonderful form of advertising. This sign changes just about every other day. I've been thinking of doing a series on my blog about this sign, because the sayings are usually quite witty. My favorite image of this sign would have been when a vandal removed the letter 'S' from the quote "Free Weeds, you pick 'em" I totally wish I had a picture of that. Another thing to note on this shot is the hot air balloon in the distance. This was accidental photography, but worked out well.

Signs Like Bowling

Signs Like Bowling

This bowling alley has been a staple for this area for quite some time. I wonder how old this sign is?

Another one from my most recent photo walk. The sun was gone behind the clouds and almost had set, so I had to increase the ISO a bit to compensate.

The Road Not Taken

The Road Not Taken

Road construction was the catalyst for this photo set taken today. I was stopped by heavy traffic congestion and instead of going the same way that I always go, I decided to take an alternate path. The road above is one of Michigan's natural beauty roads, and as I was driving down the dirt road with the trees turning green and I thought of Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken."

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

If it needs a sign, it's badly designed

If it needs a sign, it's badly designed

One of my mantras in the programming world is "If it needs a sign, it's badly designed." Many times we get frustrated with common everyday things including this water faucet. In order for the water to come out, one needs to place their hand in just the right spot and hold it there for 6 seconds before water jets out. The water then propels out so harshly that you end up getting water on your pants causing you to pull you hand away. It becomes a vicious cycle, because pulling your hand away stops the water and you need to wait another 6 seconds for it to start. I had to do some camera acrobatics to get this shot, but it was worth it.

Please Turn Knob and Push

PleaseTurnKnowAndPush
Please turn knob and push

I love signs and think they serve a great purpose. Some signs are a bit obvious and unnecessary. This sign found on a photo walk in New Orleans last January was one of those "Captain Obvious" signs.

I've been traveling and unable to post. I'm in Boston right now and I should be able to capture some of this awesome city.

This sign was begging me to photograph it this morning. I can't explain it really. I just saw this image in my head and had to photograph it.
