Rochester Elevator

This barn has caught my eye for years and I finally captured it on film last weekend. I plan on using this barn for the engagement session tomorrow. This is a bit of a unique perspective that really shows the signs of weather.

Time Expired

Another photo from my location shoot in downtown Rochester Michigan. I have an engagement shoot planned here soon and I wanted to get some inspiration in this wonderful city. There are many many things to offer here for a photographer. I may have looked a little silly hunched over photographing this common object, but it this image was speaking to me.

Today I took a photo walk in downtown Rochester Michigan location scouting for some engagement sessions. While my coffee was being made I could not resist this shot.

Here is a shot of this year's State champion on Rings for level 6 men's gymnastics. Look at the poise and determination on this athlete's face!

Equestrian Leads

Today I was able to take the Nikon D700 for a spin in a darkly lit barn in order to practice photographing equestrian jumping and this camera performed beautifully! I was amazed at the shots and I wish I could share them with you. I learned a great deal this evening about what and where to stand in order to get the best shots. Where to focus the lens and what to anticipate. These horses are amazing athletes and I can't wait to capture some meaningful moments during the horse shows this year.

Magnetic Stairway

I had the great pleasure of photographing a corporate event at the Magnetic Recording Studio in downtown Pontiac last night. This venue has a lot of space and a great stage to showcase talent or host events.

Baby's First Test

This test is designed to see which object the baby will go towards first. The money, the engineering book, the music ligature, the calculator, the paint brush etc. I think this photo tells the story of this test well. Let me know your thoughts.

Sports Row

This hallway was begging me to take it's photograph today. This is one of the hallways in the athletic center of Lake Orion High school. I took several photos today of gymnastics and this was the shot I decided to blog about.

Meet Jack

When I put the camera to my eye I want to instinctively know what to do to get the shot. In order to do this my method of choice is to carry my camera with me everywhere so that when it comes time to "get the shot without thinking" I will be prepared. This is an example of a shot that I took while carrying my camera with me today. Meet Jack. He's a Jack Russell Terrier with the amazing ability to jump about 4 feet off the ground.

The right camera for weddings

I'm shooting several weddings this year and I thought I should update my equipment a bit in order to capture those really low light church situations etc. Recently I purchased a Nikon D700 to enhance my capabilities and I am completely blown away by what this camera can do. This image was taken at 6400 ISO and you can hardly notice the grain.

Kiss the baby

It's moments like this that make me glad to be a photographer. Capturing this image was a complete joy and I really love the result.

Chasing Sunsets

I was chasing this sunset for about an hour the other day. I finally settled on this location after many road blocks.

Jay Leno's Comedy Stimulus Plan

This morning I took a drive by the Palace of Auburn Hills to photograph the crazy line for Jay Leno's Comedy Stimulus Plan. So I grabbed my camera and walked the perimeter of the building. Here are some of the shots from the day.

More of Detroit

There's a lot of contriversy over Jay Leno providing a free show at the Palace of Auburn Hills (which is not in Detroit but part of the Detroit area.) I personally love all of the Detroit area. This part of Detroit needs a bit of work however.

Sunset on a barn

I saw this barn earlier today and had to take a photo of it. It had a lot of character and a rich paint color that was fading fast. I waited until sunset to come back to this barn though since the light earlier in the day was too harsh.

Today, I cried

What's left of this building still houses many memories for me. Even though most of the structure is gone and many of the seats that I sat in can only be imagined, I still love seeing this building. I remember sitting in left field during the last game of the 1984 world series against the San Diego Padres. I remember seeing the sod fly up into the upper balcony from the joyous fans on the ground. I remember seeing the University of Michigan Marching band fear for their lives as they sat protected in their bus from the flying beer bottles and screaming fans. I remember walking on the catwalks to get to my seat. I remember being a bleacher creature. I remember my grandfather knew every single seat in this stadium and I was in awe of that fact. I remember this amazing place and when it was in all of it's glory. Today I cried for this stadium and the memories it holds for me.

Saddle Up

I had the pleasure of photographing some equestrian jumping last week and it was a great joy. I learned all about the sport including when and where to take photographs. I will have the opportunity to photograph a lot more in the near future so stay tuned for some really awesome photos.

Lake Orion Lumber Co

There are so many photos that I want to take in this area, but it's fenced off and I don't feel like trespassing. Maybe I could get in to take some more photos when they are open, but I have never seen this store open before. Maybe it's because they are opend uring the day and I'm never around.

Another gymnastics photo. This meet was difficult to photograph because there was a lot going on at the same time. I definately needed to be a photo ninja for this one and was able to capture a lot of really great moments.

Stage Confidence

The talent show was this past weekend and I had the opportunity to photograph it from back stage. This was my favorite shot actually taken during the rehearsal. I think the expression on this singer's face and the way she holds the microphone shows how she exudes confidence and comfort with being on the stage.

Behringer Tunes

The wedding music was mixed with this Behringer mixer. I came prepared with wedding music on my iPhone just in case there was an issue and wouldn't you know it the CD would not play! So they hooked up my iphone and the ceremony went off without a hitch. Not only does the camera man need to have a spare everything, but he also needs to have a backup of the wedding music too.

Harlene and Glenn are Married
