Learning to see light

Today I started to look for light. I mean really look for light. How does it fall in each direction? Where is the best illumination of the subject and from what angle? It was an eye opening experience. I thought I knew before, but today was like a gift I'm so thankful for. Here's a water fountain in Kansas City.

I've been working this image during the last two engagement sessions. I think having the couple stand much further away from the fountain helps with the shot.

Betcha can't make this fountain look good

This photo was a personal challenge when on my last engagement shoot. The groom pointed to this fountain thinking that there was no way it would work for a shot. I think I made it work.

Meadowbrook Fountain

On May 15, 2008 I took a photo walk at the Meadowbrook Mansion and discovered this awesome fountain. At the time I was alone and wish I had a couple there to photograph the fountain. So during Samer and Kelly's portrait session yesterday I just had to get this shot, and I am very pleased with the result. This is the shot that I visioned over a year ago, and it finally came to existance. That's the evolution of many of my photographs. I have many photographs stored in my brain waiting for the right moment to present itself.

Water fountains are mezmorizing and soothing at the same time. Almost like watching a camp fire. This baby was walking around and touching the water today.

I took this photo thinking it was a great shot. While I was standing there looking though the viewfinder I was smiling at the great shot I was seeing. My intent was to take a photo of a doorway and I thought he framing of this shot with this amazing fountain would make the door stand out. But now after reviewing the file I feel that it has the opposite effect. What do you think of this photo? I'm looking for constructive criticism here, so fire away.
