Pontiac GTO
Pontiac GTO
These classic car photos are some of my favorite subjects when on photo walks. There's so much character and style into these cars that makes them a lot of fun to photograph.

Air Guitar
Air Guitar
I like to call this style of photography "Throwing stuff into the air." My kids roll their eyes when I say "hey, let's throw stuff in the air!" but they oblige and it is usually a lot of fun.

The Catch
The Catch
In order to get this shot I was laying on the ground. I had to trust that the person catching the ball would actually catch the ball. I got lucky during this shoot.

Rambler Chill
Rambler Chill
I did a lot of traveling this week and this Rambler was seen on the side of the road. I used my 50mm lens with a polarizing filter and an wide open aperture of F3.5 to get this look. This is the hood ornament of a Rambler, though I'm not sure this was the stock paint job.

Slugger Joe
Slugger Joe
I did a lot of portrait work this weekend and I learned a lot from it (photographers are constantly leaning.) Many of the portraits that I took in the past were with a 50mm lens and I felt that it was the perfect lens for the job. Everything I had read told me that a zoom lens of 70 to 200mm should be used instead of a 50mm, and this weekend I found out exactly why. One of the portraits I attempted was with a woman with a more prominent nose and it made her face look out of proportion. Switching to the zoom lens fixed the elongation and made a big difference in the nose and facial features. The portrait above was taken with the zoom lens and I really liked the result.

Sun Beams
Sun Beams
Clouds and sun are easy targets for a photographer, but most require being in the right place at the right time with your camera. This was one of those situations. Later this same evening I missed an amazingly lit auburn sky, but I think this was better.

Yield To The Sky
Yield To The Sky
This sign was begging me to photograph it this morning. I can't explain it really. I just saw this image in my head and had to photograph it.

Sky Blue
Sky, originally uploaded by edwardjohnphotography.
I love photos of the sky for my desktop background. It gives me a sense of freedom and escape from the closed cubicle world that I sit beneath during the work day. I took a great photo of myself today running from camera. Stay tuned for that post on Thursday.
