Football is my life
Here's a shot from yesterday's senior session with Alex. He'll be playing football for Robert Morris University next year.

Oakview Football iPhone Photo
I watched a journalism student learn to photograph the football game today. He would ask a few questions and then walk away photographing moments the way he saw them. He would run around frantically trying to photograph what he could. At first he was trying to stand in the right place to photograph a touchdown, trying to make the photograph happen or hope that it would come. Then he started to learn that photographing what you want is not the goal. His job is to tell the story as it happened, not to make the story happen.

Softball Season with the color Pink
Youth's learn to play the sports that help define their lives. They begin to learn the motor skills to perform the sport to their very best, but the sport becomes something more than just learning a skill. Sports teach us teamwork, determination, learning how to lose, learning how to win, learning how to react when you win or lose, how to listen to authority, how to become the authority, how it feels to build a team that succeeds, and how it feels to build a team that wins not only in the sport but with each other. Sports help define our lives, and that's one reason why I enjoy photographing them.
