Caramel Macchiato

Caramel Macchiato Inside

The sunset was hitting my Carmel Macchiato just right and this drink was begging me to take it's photograph. Whenever I am in the mood for a desert coffee I very often hit the Starbucks and order one of these. I'm sure the barista is not very happy making it, but it sure tastes good.

Frap Art

Frap Art

I have been experimenting with portrait photography lately, and I find it quite a challenge to get the framing right and to find a pose that fits naturally. The model in this photo was such a ham that he made this shot quite easy. I learned a lot from this photo. I really like the composition of this shot and the pose of the model, and I could have had the model be a bit more in focus by focusing on his eyes or nose. Also, I think an smaller aperture than F3.5 would have worked better. The shutter speed could have been reduced from 1/125 down to 1/100 to allow a smaller aperture. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this shot.

Toronto Alternative

What do you do when your goal was to go to Toronto and take amazing photos of a beautiful city, but it was too cold windy and late to make the truck down town? You order a caramel Macchiato at Starbucks and take some photos of light fixtures. I've been admiring these light fixtures for quite some time and they appear in just about every Starbucks I have been in. The company that manufactures these things must be making a fortune!

One of these days I will return to the great city of Toronto for a photo taking extravaganza (but maybe when it's a lot warmer.) I took one of my best photographs in Toronto about 14 years ago. Two construction workers were fixing a light post. The framing of the workers, the buzzing traffic, the people walking by, and the colors all made the shot perfect. I took it with my Nikon 5005 film camera about 14 years ago and was the shot that made me really love photography. Until next time Toronto.
