I can't tell you how thrilled I was to photograph these equine jumpers. This sport blew me away when I first saw it and I found photographing it quite a challenge. For one thing, the horse is very aware of my presence and I needed to be very careful where I stood and how I acted when the competition was underway. Below are a couple of my favorites from the day.

Equestrian Leads
Today I was able to take the Nikon D700 for a spin in a darkly lit barn in order to practice photographing equestrian jumping and this camera performed beautifully! I was amazed at the shots and I wish I could share them with you. I learned a great deal this evening about what and where to stand in order to get the best shots. Where to focus the lens and what to anticipate. These horses are amazing athletes and I can't wait to capture some meaningful moments during the horse shows this year.

Horse Tie Post
HorseTiePost, originally uploaded by edwardjohnphotography.
Yet another photo from my walk through the streets of New Orleans. I know this was taken a bit more than a week ago, but it's worth posting. These horse tie posts are everywhere in the city of New Orleans especially in the French Quarter. Police occasionally go by on horseback, but I'm not sure how often they actually use these posts. This captures the essence of the city in a great way with the old post and the new drawing of Margaritaville in the background.
