Passion

The theme for today's portrait session was "Passion." This photo is intended to tell part of the story of passion through vivid imagery.

Engagement Ring

We are in love

Recent engagement shoot gave me this gem of a shot. I really like the symmetry of it.

Royal Park Hotel Photo Walk

Rochester Rails

Earlier this week I took a photo walk at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester Michigan. I had a portrait session there and wanted to be prepared for the shoot. This bridge is near the hotel and made for a nice setting for the casual portion of the shoot.

iPhone Photo Friday - Stormy Skies

iPhone Photo Friday

This week's edition of iPhone Friday is a photo that I took coming out of a presentation by Bob Brown (movie producer.) He was talking about the film industry in Michigan and how local businesses can get into the action. The biggest takeaway from this meeting was to visit the Michigan Film Office website.

When I took this photo, I was oblivious to the monster storms and decided that it was a good idea to drive with my top down. The looming rain cloud proceeded to let me know about my poor decision about 3 miles later.

Steel Drum Wedding Music

Ken and Melissa Sneak Peak

This weekend I had the honor and privilage of photographing Ken and Melissa's wedding. The wedding took place on the beach in Traverse City Michigan and the weather was amazing. Here's the shot of the steel drum by Third Coast Steel that played while the guests arrived.

Take a look at the main website for a sneak peek of the wedding.

What does this W stand for? This is the vintage front end of a pickup truck that I spotted yesterday.

Rescued Pup

Rescued Pup

This puppy was very recently rescued from being euthenized, and who could do such a thing? She is a beautiful puppy and will be an amazing friend to this family. I couldn't resist photographing this puppy today.

Ooh, here's another shot.

Four Keys To Successful Living

Brother's Observation

Today's message really hit home for me today and I wanted to share it with you.

1. Face Your Faults
Learn to acknowledge your faults and weaknesses and learn how to use them to your advantage.
2. Let go of your past
a. Forget your failures
You can't change the past, so learn from it and let it go.
b. Forget your successes
Dwelling on your successes tends to make you complacent which stops the learning and leads to failure.
3. Focus on the future
Set goals and focus on achieving them. Ask yourself "where am I going?"
4. Being successful requires determination
Press on! Don't learn how to quit, be determined to reach those goals and to achieve great things.

iPhone Photo Friday - Treeline Sunset

iPhone Photo Friday

Posting a new photo to my blog every day has been quite a challenge for the past year and a half, and although I usually have my SLR with me sometimes it is not. Here's where my iPhone comes in real handy. I always have this lovely device on me, so why not use it to capture those moments where "I wish I had a camera." The saying goes, the best camera is the one you have on you at the time. The iPhone is in complete control of the exposure so it really teaches me to concentrate on composition. I saw this shot while playing volleyball last weekend at a graduation party. Mid game I stopped and took this shot (in the hopes that the ball would not hit me.)

No longer camera shy

The old camera trick

Here's a shot that took a bit of coaxing to get. This boy did not want his picture taken. I could tell by the way he covered his eyes and said the words "no pictures." This is where the LCD screen on the camera comes in real handy. I take a shot and show him the picture. He get's intrigued a bit. Then I let him press the shutter and take a picture himself. This makes him even more intrigued and all he wants to do is press the shutter button. I got about 50 shots of my chin to get this one gem of a shot. I think it turned out ok, and now there is one less camera shy boy in the world.

Driving Through Hyperspace

Having a teenager of driving age is a bit scary. They seem to grow up so fast and before you know it your sitting in the passenger seat with your hands clinched to the dash board. Yes my boy is learning to drive. This is my interpretation of what was going on during the drive. A little photoshop helped this shot a bit (since we were actually stopped at the time.)

Jane and Cameron Engagement Part 2

One more shot from Sunday's engagement session. I love the natural framing of the trees and the background with this shot. I can only imagine eating family dinners every evening while looking at this tremendous view.
